Reuters reports:
The mayor of San Francisco late on Friday ordered new lockdowns and business restrictions across the Bay Area in the face of the COVID-19 surge, as political leaders nationwide ramp up pressure on Americans to stay home until vaccines can be distributed.
The new measures announced by Mayor London Breed, a first-term Democrat, apply across five Bay Area counties and are among the harshest of any major U.S. city, closing all personal services, outdoor dining and most public gatherings.
Starting at 10 p.m. this Sunday, San Francisco will close all outdoor dining, outdoor playgrounds, zoos and aquariums along with other measures, according to a statement on the mayor’s website.
San Francisco, along with other Bay Area counties, is opting in to the Governor’s regional Stay at Home Order effective Sunday at 10pm.
We’re on pace to run out of hospital beds to care for patients the day after Christmas. We must turn this around now. https://t.co/F0qwFnCb9e

We do not take these actions lightly. I know the impact that they have on local businesses, employees, and all of our residents, especially without the federal support that we need. But we can’t afford to wait and delay the inevitable.
Our goal is to flatten this curve now.

Our Community learning hubs remain open. Schools that are open remain open.
Elementary schools that are closed can reopen with a waiver, and we absolutely must continue our work to reopen our public schools.
