The Orlando Sentinel reports:
Florida Senate President Wilton Simpson has tested positive for COVID-19, his spokeswoman said Monday. Simpson, 56, was slated to be an elector in the Electoral College vote Monday afternoon in the Senate chambers and took a test ahead of the event.
But because of his positive test, he didn’t attend the ceremony and an alternate took his place. Simpson also was scheduled to attend a Christmas party at DeSantis’ governor’s mansion Monday evening, an event which has drawn criticism because no protocols for masks or social distancing were announced.
As Senate President, Wilton Simpson was scheduled to preside over today’s meeting where Florida’s 29 electoral votes would be awarded to Donald Trump. But Simpson informed that because of his diagnosis, he had to cancel. https://t.co/brobwijUUO
