President Donald Trump participated in a town hall event held in Philadelphia Tuesday night, hosted by ABC News’ anchor George Stephanopoulos. Trump noted that he had worn a mask when in hospitals or other places, but immediately blamed the Democrats for not instituting a mask-mandate.
“They said at the Democrat Convention…they’re going to do a national mandate, they never did it,” Trump explained. “Because they’re checked out, they never did it.” He then doubled down by saying Joe Biden never called for a national mandate.
This twisted logic was quickly noted by former Vice President Biden himself, who responded on social media with the retort that he is “not currently president.”

Trump, who is president, just tried to blame Joe Biden, who is not president, for not implementing a national mask mandate.

Trump is criticizing Biden, who isn’t president, for not finding a way to implement a national mask mandate, on ABC Town Hall.

Trump blames (checks notes) Joe Biden for there not being a national mask mandate.
Then he goes off on some batshit crazy monologue about how some people don’t like masks

“The claim…is misleading for two reasons: Biden has, in fact, urged all state governors to mandate mask-wearing to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Democratic candidate is also not the president and has no authority to mandate anything. Trump does.” https://t.co/QQy4DbkfUJ

In the first 15 minutes of this ABC town hall, Trump:
– Criticized Biden (who isn’t POTUS) for not implementing a national mask mandate
– Claimed the virus will “disappear,” even without a vaccine, because of “herd mentality”
– Said WAITERS are urging Americans not to wear masks

It’s stunning that Trump and his minion raise questions about Biden. Here he babbles about Democrats—who don’t control the White House—not enacting a national mask mandates AND crazy-talks about masks inconveniencing waiters. Deplorable. pic.twitter.com/MiZbMLradC

“He never did it,” Trump says, speaking of Biden not implementing a national mask mandate. That’s true. A man who currently has no formal political power did not implement sweeping legislation. Compelling critique from the man who is…*checks notes*…currently the president. https://t.co/0TmhyXDkqU
