Schumer Calls For Resignation Of HHS Sec. Alex Azar

CBS News reports:

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday called on Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar to resign, arguing he has failed to stand up to President Trump in the response to coronavirus. The call from Schumer comes amid a series of controversies at HHS.

On Monday, the New York Times reported that a top HHS official under Azar, Michael Caputo, accused government scientists of plotting against Trump and told supporters to buy ammunition. Politico also reported that Caputo and his communications team have sought to edit important scientific reports from the CDC.

“The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar, has not only failed to push back against outrageous moves by President Trump, he’s been almost entirely silent about the chaos and mismanagement in his own agency,” Schumer said.
