The Washington Post reports:
Los Angeles will cut off water and electricity at houses that repeatedly host “egregious” parties, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Wednesday. With bars and nightclubs closed to stop the spread of the coronavirus, hundreds of young people have flocked to large parties held at private homes and rental properties in the Hollywood Hills.
In addition to raising the usual concerns about social distancing and masks, some of the gatherings have turned violent — an issue that came to the forefront on Monday night when a house party at a Mulholland Drive mansion ended in a deadly shooting.
Garcetti, a Democrat, said Wednesday that vacant homes used for short-term rentals “have essentially become nightclubs in the Hills,” potentially putting lives at risk as coronavirus cases continue to surge in California.
