The Miami Herald reports:
Florida’s Department of Health on Wednesday confirmed 8,109 additional cases of COVID-19, pushing the state’s known total to 550,901. An additional 212 Florida resident deaths brings the statewide resident death toll to 8,765.
Miami-Dade County reported 4,141 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 30 new deaths, according to Florida’s Department of Health. The county now has 139,271 confirmed cases and 1,939 deaths.
Florida’s Department of Health says the county’s single-day high of 4,141 newly confirmed cases is “not reflective of current trends” because it was caused by a backlog of testing data dating back to June 23 from Niznik Lab Corp in Miami.
Was informed that the jump in today’s #COVID19 cases & positivity rate in #MiamiDade #Florida is due to a single lab dumping up to 2 1/2 weeks worth of test results in one release. They say many of these positives are up to 10 to 18 days old.

(1/2) Today, the Florida Department of Health (DOH) received a backlog of testing data from Niznik Lab Corp in Miami, dating back to June 23rd. The lab reported over 4,000 cases occurring over the past 7 weeks, but which had not been reported to DOH until today.

(2/2)Therefore, this backlog severely skews today’s daily report for Miami-Dade & is not reflective of current trends. Once DOH was informed of this testing data backlog, we immediately reached out to Niznik Lab & we are investigating the matter, along with Miami-Dade leadership.

Everyone tested by Niznik Lab Corp has received their results and have continuously been receiving results over the past seven weeks. The backlog of testing data from Niznik Lab Corp is a reporting issue that has been corrected. https://t.co/uok0fEswQv
