It will be silent in Churchill Downs as the horses cross the finish line during the 146th Kentucky Derby. In a dramatic about-face, Churchill Downs announced Friday it is not allowing fans at the Run for the Roses over growing concerns about keeping a crowd safe, even with social distancing rules in place, during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Churchill Downs and all of our team members feel strongly that it is our collective responsibility as citizens of Louisville to do all we responsibly can to protect the health, safety and security of our community in these challenging times and believe that running the Derby without spectators is the best way to do that,” track officials said..
