Amy Cooper, the woman who called police on a Black birdwatcher in Central Park, will be charged with falsely reporting an incident, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said Monday.
In a statement, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. said his office “initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the Third Degree.” “Our office will provide the public with additional information as the case proceeds,” he wrote in the statement.
“At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reporting to contact our Office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable,” he added.
BREAKING: Amy Cooper, a white woman who called the police and falsely accused Christian Cooper, a Black man of threatening her life after he asked her to put her dog on a leash will face misdemeanor charges, the Manhattan district attorney announced Monday.
