Trump Threatens To Move Convention Over Lockdown

The Hill reports:

President Trump warned Monday that the Republican Party could seek to move the location for its 2020 convention due to ongoing coronavirus-related restrictions in North Carolina, where the event is set to be held.

In a string of tweets, Trump threatened to explore different locations for the convention if North Carolina’s Gov. Roy Cooper (D) could not guarantee that the GOP would have full use of Charlotte’s Spectrum Center.

The tweets come as Trump has pushed some state governors for weeks to begin accelerating their plans to reopen state economies around the country, even as some states have seen their numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases continue to rise.

Perhaps obviously, Trump had zero to do with selecting Charlotte. National parties choose their convention locations after a years-long process of reviewing bids.
