Raw Story reports:
Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday slapped down an attempt by Sen. Rand Paul to downplay the potential negative effects of the coronavirus on children.
During a Senate hearing on America’s COVID-19 response, Paul pushed Fauci to say that it will be safe to send children back to school in the fall because they are far less likely to die from the disease compared to older people.
“We don’t know everything about this virus, and we really better be very careful, particularly when it comes to children,” Fauci retorted. “Because the more and more we learn, we’re seeing things about what this virus can do that we didn’t see from the studies in China or in Europe.”
Sen. Rand Paul: “I don’t think you’re the end all. I don’t think you’re the one person that gets to make a decision.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci: “I have never made myself out to be the end all and only voice in this. I’m a scientist, a physician and a public health official.” pic.twitter.com/Nqlg3zOqn3

Watching Republicans cheer on Rand Paul “taking on” Dr. Fauci almost perfectly characterizes the anti-intellectual, anti-reason, anti-fact, and frankly degenerate state of the Republican Party.

Sen. Paul leaves coronavirus hearing and tells cameras: “here’s the other question and this is unprovable. I think New York would have lost the same amount of people whether we did anything or not”
“A lot of what happens with the virus is independent of what government does”

Rand Paul saves the day! Calls out the “experts” and says you are not the “end all” to make all decisions. GAME, SET, MATCH.

Worth recalling, Rand Paul was one of the biggest, more destructive, spreaders of misinformation and panic about how Ebola may spread. That he’s downplaying COVID spread now is quite the 180https://t.co/0n7v2l8oLp

Wow. Quite an exchange.
GOP Sen Rand Paul suggested kids suffering less from coronavirus means schools can reopen.
Dr. Fauci responded by saying, “I think we’ve got to be careful if we are not cavalier in thinking that children are completely immune to the deleterious effects.”

.@RandPaul pushes back on idea of a national strategy for schools reopening, says to Dr. Fauci: “I don’t think you’re the end-all. I don’t think you’re the only one who should be making a decision.” Fauci: “I give advice according to the best scientific evidence.”

Rand Paul tells the government’s leading epidemiologist Dr. Fauci that he is “not the end all,” which is quite the lecture coming from the guy who visited the Senate gym while infected with coronavirus.
