NYC Schools Closed For Remainder Of Academic Year

NBC New York reports:

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he will keep all public schools closed for the rest of the school year due to coronavirus (COVID-19). “Keeping this policy of social distancing is the best way forward to protect all of us,” said de Blasio at a press conference on Saturday.

“Everything we are doing is to protect our children, our families to help end the pain and the trauma. After very careful consideration, New York City public schools will remain closed for remainder of this school year,” he added.

De Blasio announced on March 15 that the largest school system in the United States with approximately 1.1 million public school students would close beginning March 16 until at least April 20. However, he said at the time: “We may not have the opportunity to reopen them in this full school year.”
