Fauci: Testing Must Double Before Reopening Begins

The New York Post reports:

Dr. Anthony Fauci has warned that coronavirus testing needs to at least double before lockdowns are lifted — even as some states have already started re-opening parts of their economies. The US currently gets through about 1.5 million to 2 million tests a week, which America’s top infectious disease expert says is still nowhere near enough to get a safer grip on the contagion’s spread.

“We probably should get up to twice that as we get into the next several weeks, and I think we will,” Fauci told the National Academy of Sciences annual meeting on Saturday night. He said it is important to “have enough tests to respond to the outbreaks that will inevitably occur as you try and ease your way back into the different phases.” Fauci also cautioned against rushing tests of possible COVID-19 treatments.
