Trump: I’ve Already “Saved Many Lives” From The Virus

The Independent reports:

Donald Trump is pushing a weeks-old poll – conducted before a stock market drop – about the US government’s response to the Coronavirus outbreak while also accusing Democrats of “fear mongering” about the flu-like ailment.

The president on Sunday cited a New York Post survey he claims “says that 77% of ‘US adults have confidence in their government’s ability to handle the Coronavirus (Number One), compared to other health threats.'”

“Others way down on list,” he wrote, seeming to mean previous presidents’ responses to other health crises. “Our professionals are doing a great job!”

Politico reports:

Trump’s praise for his own handling of the coronavirus has been his administration’s most consistent response since the global outbreak began earlier this year. Administration officials have struggled at times to offer consistent messaging on what threats Americans face and what steps they should take to mitigate them.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow, for example, said last week that the Trump administration had “contained this, I won’t say airtight but pretty close to airtight” — a sharp break from a top CDC official who said earlier that same day that a U.S. coronavirus outbreak was “not a question of if but rather a question of when.”
