DETROIT: Michelle Obama Cancels GOTV Rally

Reuters reports:

A get-out-the-vote rally with Michelle Obama is getting canceled due to coronavirus fears. The former first lady was poised to be on-hand on March 27 at the kick-off rally for When We All Vote in Detroit.

In a Wednesday message, the organization — a nonpartisan group that works to increase voter participation across the country — told supporters that the decision to nix the event was made “out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of attendees and individuals traveling to Detroit.”

Organizers noted that there are no confirmed causes of the coronavirus in the Michigan city. Obama launched When We All Vote in 2018 with the aim of promoting voter participation.
