Montana Rep Defies State GOP Demand To Resign After Saying The Constitution Calls For “Shooting Socialists”

The Associated Press reports:

A Montana lawmaker on Monday rejected legislative leaders’ call for his resignation over his assertion that the U.S. Constitution allows socialists to be jailed or shot. He said he filed to run for the state Senate on Friday, a decision that had nothing to do with the response to his comments.

Republican Rep. Rodney Garcia of Billings, responding to the letter by the three leaders of his own political party, said the “only way I would give my resignation is if God asked me to.”

He could not cite which part of the Constitution supports his claims. Garcia told the AP that he believes that the Constitution’s Treason Clause in Article III allows for the jailing or killing of “enemies” of the U.S., which he believed to mean socialists.
