Axios reports:
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) falsely claimed on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that President Trump did not ask Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate his political rival on a July 25 phone call.
The leading Trump ally’s defense illustrates the degree to which House Republicans will dispute key facts in the impeachment inquiry, which will cross another critical threshold this week as the House Judiciary Committee votes on articles of impeachment.
As CNN’s Dana Bash pointed out, President Trump specifically asked Zelesnky on the July 25 phone call to investigate Joe Biden, who was at that point seen as the likely frontrunner in the 2020 Democratic primary. Trump did not raise any broader concerns about corruption in Ukraine.
“He didn’t do that. I don’t agree with your premise.” — watch @RepMarkMeadows refuse to admit Trump asked Ukraine to investigate Biden even as Trump’s words are READ ALOUD TO HIM.
Reminder: Trump also stood on the WH lawn and asked China to do it. pic.twitter.com/okF3m73sPK

“At one point Bash asked him why Republicans didn’t investigate Hunter Biden’s role on the board of Burisma when they had the majority in the House.
‘One, I didn’t know about it at the time,’ he said.
‘It was public information,’ Bash said.” https://t.co/F2QbzBQy82

FLASHBACK: “If they were honest about it, they’d start a major investigation into the Bidens- Likewise, China should start an investigation into the Bidens.”
Republicans are on TV saying THIS never happened. It did. ????@RepMarkMeadows @RepMattGaetzpic.twitter.com/8XVLrvcuQ7

.@RepMarkMeadows: “I don’t know of any role that Rudy Giuliani is playing on behalf of the President of the United States. I think he’s over there [in Ukraine] as a citizen… I don’t know that he’s over there at the President’s direction. In fact, I would suggest that he’s not.” pic.twitter.com/yTa83aobX2
