CHATTER AWAY: Overnight Open Thread

Billboard Magazine reports:

“All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which Mariah Carey co-wrote with collaborator Walter Afanasieff, has topped the Hot 100 for the first time thanks to the annual (and growing) spike in streaming it receives around the holidays.

It is Carey’s 19th No. 1 single on the chart — the most among solo artists in history — and only the second holiday song to reach the top position (after The Chipmunks’ “The Chipmunk Song” with David Seville ruled for four weeks in 1958-59).

“We definitely wanted to kick it into high gear this year with the song to celebrate the 25th anniversary, but I definitely didn’t expect it to hit No. 1 two weeks before Christmas,” Carey tells me the day of the song’s summit. “I just want to thank everybody. I want the world to have the best holiday ever.”
