Buttigieg And Warren Feud At Dem Debate [VIDEO]

Politico reports:

The simmering feud between Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg the past few weeks had been confined to a tit-for-tat followed mostly by political reporters and political junkies. On Thursday, it spilled into open view before a national audience — and in captivating fashion.

In a riveting, minutes-long exchange that punctuated just how much the two leading candidates view one another as a threat, Warren and Buttigieg tussled over high-dollar fundraisers, hypocrisy and personal wealth.

The clash during the PBS NewsHour/POLITICO debate came as the two favorites of well-educated white voters compete for the top spot in Iowa, a must-win state for both.

Vox reports:

The biggest on-stage fight of Thursday’s Democratic debate, between Sen. Elizabeth Warren and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg — indeed, one of the biggest fights we’ve seen come out of any of the debates — was about wine caves. Or rather, it was a fight about high-dollar fundraisers, political access, and who gets to have it.

Said wine caves recently went viral when Recode reporter Teddy Schleifer tweeted out photos of the Buttigieg event, showcasing the glittering chandelier made out of 1,500 Swarovski crystals. And, as Slodysko recently reported, Hall Rutherford’s wine caves produce bottles of cabernet sauvignon that go for as much as $900.

The New York Times reports:

The two had a pair of fights, one on each of their turfs. Ms. Warren targeted his campaign fund-raising tactics — pivoting from a friendly question about whether women should have more influence in politics — and Mr. Buttigieg assailed her free public college plan.

“The mayor just recently had a fund-raiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served $900 a bottle wine,” Ms. Warren said.

Mr. Buttigieg was ready. Ms. Warren, he said, is herself a millionaire, and one who transferred millions of dollars she had raised for her Senate account while holding the same closed-door, high-dollar fund-raisers she now disdains.
