The Hill reports:
President Trump on Friday dug in on his strategy of attacking four progressive minority congresswomen despite some backlash from within his own party, saying he doesn’t care how it affects him politically.
“I don’t know if it’s good or bad politically. I don’t care,” Trump told reporters of his attack against the group of Democratic lawmakers, known as the “Squad,” as he departed the White House for a weekend in New Jersey.
“Many people say it’s good. I don’t know if it’s good or bad,” he continued. “I can tell you this: You can’t talk that way about our country. Not when I”m the president.”
Asked how he’d feel if someone said to him that Melania should go back to where she came from, Trump just repeats that the congresswomen he’s attacking have said “terrible” things. He then starts talking about all he’s done for Israel.

Asked if this fight is good or bad politics, Trump says, “I don’t know if it’s good or bad politically, I don’t care.” He says, “You can’t talk that way about our country. Not while I’m the president.”

Told that the congresswomen of color have the First Amendment right to criticize the country, Trump says he also has First Amendment rights.

Reminded of his own past criticism of the state of the country and asked why that was okay but this isn’t, Trump says, “I love our country” and “I believe all people are great people.”

Trump says what is “racist to me” is what the congresswomen have said, since they, he claims, “hate everybody.” (He mentions comments he says are antisemitic.) He adds, again, “We’re dealing with people who hate our country.”

Trump keeps accusing Ocasio-Cortez of calling the people of the US “garbage.” She didn’t call Americans garbage. Rejecting incremental politics, she said people shouldn’t have to settle for proposals “10% better than garbage.”

Trump falsely claims the congresswomen have talked about “evil Jews,” adding, “That’s what they say, evil Jews.” None of them have said that. Omar once tweeted that Israel has committed “evil doings.”
