Politico reports:
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday dodged questions on whether he would support the House beginning a formal inquiry to impeach President Donald Trump. “I believe that … Speaker Pelosi is handling this appropriately,” Schumer told reporters.
Schumer’s deference to Pelosi comes after Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), the No. 3 Democrat in the Senate, said over the weekend that she supports the House beginning impeachment proceedings. She was joined Monday by Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the No. 4 Democrat in the Senate.
Just 12 of the 47 Democratic senators have so far backed an impeachment inquiry. The number in the House is over 100, nearly half of the Democratic caucus.
