The New York Post reports:
Pride — with its messages of love, acceptance and self-expression — is a sham, according to conservative gay rights activist Brandon Straka. The 42-year-old Harlem hairdresser said the gay community turned its back on him once the former “diehard liberal” — who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 — switched to the Republican Party.
According to a complaint filed Friday in Manhattan Supreme Court and exclusively obtained by The Post, the LGBT Center in Greenwich Village discriminated against Straka by canceling his 250-person WalkAway event “LGBT TownHall” in March, days before it was scheduled to take place.
“I’m considered a traitor. [The community] wanted to silence me, they wanted to roll over me and make me disappear,” said Straka, who is seeking $20 million in damages.
On March 22nd, the LGBT Center issued this statement:
Upon further review and consideration, The Center has cancelled the March 28 Walk Away event. We strongly oppose censorship and fully stand by our commitment to free speech, but as our space use policy states, we reserve the right to cancel any event that promotes discriminatory speech or bigotry; negatively impacts other groups or individuals that use The Center; or conflicts with, or interferes with, Center-sponsored or produced programming. It has become clear that this event would violate all of these important policies.
In recent days we have learned that certain of the panelists announced for this event have made repeated, well-documented past statements that violate our mission, values and the spirit of inclusiveness for all individuals and identities that is core to our work and who we are. Our space is a place of safety and refuge for those most vulnerable among us, and we will do everything in our power to protect that. Permitting this event to proceed would make many of our community members feel unsafe.
About one of the event’s panelists:
Aside from Caitlyn Jenner, Blaire White might just be the most prominent trans voice on the right: About every two weeks, White, a 24-year-old living in Los Angeles, posts videos sharing her conservative opinions on YouTube to an audience of about 360,000 subscribers who help her rack up millions of views every month.
White has been able to win over right-leaning YouTube viewers by taking shots at the usual conservative targets: Feminists, “social justice warriors,” the media and even other trans or gender-nonconforming people. Some of her videos include “There Are Only 2 Genders,” “Fat Acceptance Is Stupid,” “Special Snowflake Syndrome.”
White has targeted specific members of the trans YouTube community with these kinds of comments, most notably in a video called “Triggering Trannies Pt 2,” where she takes jabs at trans vloggers with progressive views and mocks their appearance.
As you can see by his tweet at the bottom of this post, another panelist has appeared on the show of Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes.
I am no victim, to be sure.
My message is not now nor has it ever been one of victimhood, revenge, or want to do harm to anyone. Quite the opposite. My message is one of TRUE freedom. TRUE liberation. TRUE empowerment.
