The Birmingham News reports:
Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore announced Thursday he is running for U.S. Senate in 2020, two years after narrowly losing a bid for the seat to Democratic Sen. Doug Jones amid allegations of sexual misconduct with teenagers.
Moore, who was kicked off the bench twice, made the official announcement at a press conference in Montgomery with his wife Kayla by his side.
“Why is there such a hatred to somebody running? Is it because I believe in God and the right of a baby in the womb to have a life? Are these things embarrassing to you?,” Moore said referring to recent comments by national leaders against this pending candidacy.
If Senator Richard Shelby would have stayed out of the 2017 race, Doug Jones would not be in the Senate now! The people of Alabama already know what he did in 2017, obviously he feels guilty about helping elect a Democrat. What’s he really afraid of? https://t.co/YYN6pCBzE1

Roy Moore, ahead of announcing, calls out @NRSC, @SenToddYoung & @HolmesJosh as pushing him not to run for the U.S. Senate. Reminder: Moore made it clear in 2017 that the GOP establishment, as he called it, was included in a conspiracy against him in his race against Doug Jones. pic.twitter.com/agj615NJ0N

During his failed campaign, Roy Moore compared the SCOTUS ruling on Obergefell—the ruling that legalized same-sex marriage—to Dred Scott, the 1857 SCOTUS ruling that said the U.S. Constitution did not include American citizenship for black people. #ALSen pic.twitter.com/5HhZtmu6dj

Moore did a series of rambling radio interviews, including one in which he illogically compared giving people equal rights and legalizing same-sex marriage to the Manson family. ? #ALSen pic.twitter.com/Pk2CWx8xfk
