Mediaite reports:
Manuel Oliver, the father of a child who was slain during the Parkland massacre, repeatedly confronted Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) during a hearing, and Gaetz tried to have Oliver ejected.
During a House hearing on HR8, which expanded background checks to include all firearms purchases, Gaetz used the occasion to promote Trump’s border wall by suggesting that immigrants are a greater danger than firearms.
Oliver, whose son Joaquin Oliver was killed during the gun massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, rose to object to Gaetz’s tangent several times, shouting “No one should forget!”
The Miami New Times reports:
“Is there a process in the committee whereby if the very same people are repeatedly interrupting the time of the members, that those people will be asked to depart the committee?” Gaetz said while aggressively pointing his finger at Oliver and the other parents in the crowd.
“I’d observe three interruptions of my time by the same individual and that the chair is not utilizing its discretion to remove that individual,” he added.
During today’s House hearing on #HR8, Rep. Matt Gaetz said building “the wall” would be more effective than background checks. He then got into an argument with @manueloliver00, whose son Joaquin was killed in Parkland, and tried to have him ejected. pic.twitter.com/8KjC8r9BWB

As @mattgaetz says walls to keep out immigrants, not background checks, will address gun violence, the Parkland parents are *NOT* having it. @fred_guttenberg and @manueloliver00, who lost their children in Parkland, screamed as Gaetz spoke. Capitol police almost booted them.

There is nothing Matt Gaetz won’t do to maximize his chances of being asked to appear on one or more of that evening’s Fox News primetime shows

In today’s hearing on gun violence, Dem Rep. David Cicilline followed remarks from Matt Gaetz by inquiring if there was a rule barring lawmakers from making false statements in hearings.
“Are members in Congress entitled to just make things up?”
Applause break out.

Matt Gaetz uses illegal aliens slur, changes subject to immigration during gun violence hearing to try and paint it as a bigger problem.
Fact check: 15K Americans/year die from guns (excluding suicides). Immigrants commit less crimes than native citizens.pic.twitter.com/r5Uj8WYToo
