USA Today reports:
President Donald Trump said in a Wednesday tweet that he is cutting off federal money to fight California wildfires, claiming the money is being wasted. State officials have accused Trump of playing politics with the California wildfires, and said he does not understand the issues involved in fighting fires. Trump’s declaration comes as he takes political heat over the ongoing partial government shutdown.
Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest fires that, with proper Forrest Management, would never happen. Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!

President Trump says he has ordered @fema to withhold funds to aid in California wildfire recovery efforts. Claims that “proper Forrest (sic) management” would have prevented them. Assume he’s talking about raking again? At least 85 were killed in last fire, many still missing. https://t.co/I9ImaPDyCU
