CBS News reports:
House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings announced Wednesday that the committee is launching an investigation into “grave breaches with the security clearance process” at the White House. “The goals of this investigation are to determine why the White House and Transition Team appear to have disregarded established procedures for safeguarding classified information, evaluate the extent to which the nation’s most highly guarded secrets were provided to officials who should not have had access to them, and develop reforms,” Cummings said.
Among those targeted are Jared Kushner, Michael Flynn, Michael Flynn Jr., Sebastian Gorka, and Rob Porter.
And on a related note:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and numerous other progressive Democrats have been appointed to the influential House Oversight and Reform committee, according to a Tuesday release from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Among the other progressive Democrats appointed to the committee: Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who grabbed headlines in January for using a profanity in her call to impeach President Donald Trump. The committee was ranked one of the most influential in Congress in 2014 by The Atlantic, which noted that the committee investigates allegations of fraud and abuse within the federal government.
