UTAH: Judge Tosses GOP Bid To Stop House Vote Count

The Salt Lake Tribune reports:

A judge has dismissed U.S. Rep. Mia Love’s legal challenge to the ballot-counting process in vote-rich Salt Lake County, where the congresswoman’s Democratic rival holds a slight advantage.

The Republican incumbent — who’s trailing Democrat Ben McAdams in the 4th Congressional District race — earlier this week filed her lawsuit calling for the Salt Lake County clerk to stop opening mail-in ballots until her campaign won the right to challenge the validity of certain votes. Third District Judge Judge James Gardner on Friday dismissed her petition.

“Although the Love Parties identified specific relief sought in the Petition, they failed to show an entitlement under Utah law to the relief sought,” Gardner wrote. “In other words, the Love Parties failed to point the Court to a single statute, rule or case that would entitle them to any of the relief sought in the Petition.”

Mia Love is among the Republicans ridiculed by Trump last week after it appeared that she had already lost. Early this year she condemned Trump’s “indefensible” racism for his “shithole countries” comment.
