Billboard Magazine reports:
Netflix has acquired Dumplin, a film about a plus-size teenage daughter of a former beauty queen who adores Dolly Parton and her music.
Adapted from the book by Julie Murphy, the film features collaborations and original music from Parton. The book references Parton throughout, including the opening lines that state that the best moments in the protagonist’s life have started with a Parton song. The main character is named Willowdean, a reference to Parton’s real-life sister, Willadeene.
“Here I Am,” the debut track from the soundtrack performed by Parton and Sia, will be available for download and streaming at midnight ET. Parton penned and recorded the song originally for 1971’s Coat of Many Colors album.
I’m thrilled to tell y’all @netflix is releasing Dumplin’, a movie I’ve been working on with some very talented folks?
The soundtrack releases worldwide Nov. 30th & the film will be out later this year! Stay tuned! ? https://t.co/jR9UxOZKcq
