Jim Jordan Formally Unveils Bid For House Speaker

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports:

House Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan – a conservative firebrand from Champaign County – announced Thursday that he’ll run for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real change to the House of Representatives,” said a statement Jordan released through a spokesman.

“President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people,” his statement continued. “Congress has not held up its end of the deal, but we can change that. It’s time to do what we said.”

Current House Speaker Paul Ryan retires in January. GOP reps Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise have also expressed interest in the job, but neither has so far made a formal announcement. Vote blue, people. Always.
