Axios reports:
House Speaker Paul Ryan told CNBC’s Joe Kernen Tuesday that it’s “fake news” that he’s leaving Congress because he doesn’t want to deal with President Trump anymore. Yes, but: Ryan allies told Axios earlier this month that once Ryan passed tax reform, his longtime dream, he was ready to step out of the frustrating role of Speaker, in part due to Trump. Ryan said “never say never” when it comes to running again and that his plan is to “come up with my plan in 2019.”
I have a feeling that Ryan wants a year of Trump stench removal before he decides to challenge him in 2020. Presuming, of course, that Trump is still around by then.
