Kremlin: Trump Pitched Putin On White House Summit

The Daily Beast reports:

President Trump has reportedly invited Vladimir Putin to the White House for a visit, according to a statement from the Kremlin. According to an Agence France-Presse reporter, a senior U.S. official did “not deny” that Trump “floated the idea of a White House summit,” noting that “no planning has begun as yet.” This comes after Trump reportedly congratulated Vladimir Putin on his re-election over the phone after his staff told him explicitly not to.

From the Russian state outlet TASS:

Washington was suggested as the venue for summit talks between the Russian and US presidents by American leader Donald Trump during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said on Monday. “During a telephone conversation between our presidents, Trump suggested that the first meeting could be held in Washington,” Ushakov told journalists. No preparations for a meeting between Putin and Trump are underway following their telephone call, according to Ushakov.
