AUSTRALIA: “Regular Moms” Of Anti-Gay Marriage Ad Exposed As Liars, Crackpots, Ex-Gay Torture Advocates

The Sydney Morning Herald reports:

A Melbourne principal has disputed a mother’s claim – aired in an anti same-sex marriage TV ad – that her son was told he could wear a dress to school. Cella White, who has previously appeared in videos attacking the Safe Schools program and whose claims have been heavily promoted by the Australian Christian Lobby, is one of three mothers featured in the Coalition for Marriage’s debut TV ad which aired on Tuesday night.

“The school told my son that he could wear a dress to school next year if he wanted,” Ms White says in the 30-second commercial. But the principal of the school in question, Frankston High, said Ms White’s claim had no substance. “We checked with all the teachers; it never happened,” John Albiston said. “I have never had any complaints that we advised the boys they could wear dresses. We didn’t offer them that option.”

More from News Corp:

One of the women who appears in the controversial ‘vote no’ television advertisement campaign against same-sex marriage has been calling on the Chinese-Australian community to oppose same-sex marriage for months — spreading misleading information about gay people, and even promoting conversion therapy.

Dr Pansy Lai is the second woman who appears in the Coalition for Marriage advertisement, after Cella White, who claims her son’s school would permit him to wear a dress. Ms Lai then goes on to claim that “when same-sex marriage passes as law overseas, this type of program becomes compulsory”.

Dr Lai is the founder of the Australian Chinese for Families Association, a group which claims to “bring together the Chinese community throughout Australia who hold traditional family values” and give a voice to our collective concerns clearly and respectfully.”

Their newsletter said there is no evidence that people are born gay, and promoted treatment therapies for people who wished to change their sexual orientation as “resulting in lasting change for more than 50 per cent of people studied, with no increases in harm or distress.”

And from Pink News:

The third woman who appears in the ad is Heidi McIvor, who claims: “Kids in year 7 are being asked to roleplay being in a same-sex relationship”. It later emerged that McIvor is a pastor at extreme anti-LGBT church Sale City Builders Church, and a persistent fundamentalist activist with an active role in the anti-gay marriage and anti-abortion movements.

Meanwhile a parody of the original ad has gone viral.
