Trump Makes Last Minute Pitch For Karen Handel

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:

President Donald Trump made a last-ditch appeal to Georgia’s 6th District voters Monday, tweeting that they should back Republican Karen Handel during tomorrow’s special election in order to block Democrats’ tax, health care and border security agenda.

Trump and several of his top White House advisers are said to be closely watching Tuesday’s special election to replace Tom Price, which is seen as a referendum on his young presidency, the House GOP health care bill and a test for Democrats’ new messaging strategy ahead of 2018. More than $50 million has been spent on shaping the contest, making it by far the most expensive congressional race of all time.

The president headlined a fundraiser for Handel when he was in town in late April, where he quipped to the former secretary of state that she’d “better win.” He’s also sent several of his top deputies to campaign on her behalf and recorded several robocalls trashing her Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff.

UPDATE: Just in from NBC News.

Don’t be surprised if this quote dominates the final 24 hours of the GA-6 race. “I’ll tell you what: I think the shooting is going to win this election for us,” said Brad Carver, GOP chairman of the neighboring 11th Congressional District in Georgia, according to the Washington Post.

“Because moderates and independents in this district are tired of left-wing extremism. I get that there’s extremists on both sides, but we are not seeing them. We’re seeing absolute resistance to everything this president does. Moderates and independents out there want to give him a chance. Democrats have never given this president a chance.”

More from Carver: “It’s not going to be a blowout. It’ll be close, but we’ll win it. And I really do think the congressional baseball shooting is going to decide the election.”
