HUNGARY: HUD Secretary Ben Carson To Speak At International Convention Of Anti-LGBT Hate Groups

The SPLC reports today that HUD Secretary Ben Carson will this week deliver a presentation at the Budapest convention for the viciously anti-LGBT World Congress of Families, which works to enact and strengthen anti-LGBT laws around the globe. From the SPLC’s report:

Each year, anti-LGBT hate group World Congress of Families holds a major annual summit, in addition to smaller regional gatherings. The summit often attracts around three thousand people, and it’s held in major cities around the world.

This year, the eleventh annual gathering is slated for May 25 through 28 (with WCF events scheduled May 26 and 27) for Budapest, Hungary with the theme “Building Family-Friendly Nations: Making Families Strong Again,” and already the speakers’ list is shaping up as a who’s who on the anti-LGBT and anti-choice Christian Right.

WCF and its conferences serve as important networking sites for Christian Right activists from around the world, and often include local legislators and religious officials. The Budapest host committee was led by Hungarian government official Katalin Novák, Secretary of State for Youth, Family and International Affairs, which falls under the purview of Hungary’s Ministry of Capacities, headed by cabinet minister Zoltan Balog.

The subject of Carson’s presentation has not been revealed. Among the US-based hate groups slated to attend are the Alliance Defending Freedom and C-FAM, both of whom advocate for criminalizing homosexuality. Last year NOM leader Brian Brown was elected as the president of the World Congress of Families. Hit the link for the SPLC’s extensive report.
