Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell On Devin Nunes: This Is What A Coverup To A Crime Looks Like [VIDEO]

Congressman Eric Swalwell stopped by the set of Morning Joe, Tuesday, to offer his assessment of the growing swirl of controversy surrounding his colleague, Representative Devin Nunes. Nunes, a California Republican and chair of the House Intelligence Committee, has faced growing calls to recuse himself from the committee after briefing the president on classified intelligence information.

“You can take up golfing now because there’s sure not going to be an investigation in the House,” mocked Joe Scarborough. “It’s time for Devin Nunes to leave this investigation,” said Swalwell. “He should be gone.” Swalwell then said revelations that Nunes was on White House grounds to receive classified intelligence material also seemed suspicious. “We could receive at the capitol, we have our own secure facility,” said Nunes. “This is what a cover-up to a crime looks like. We are watching it play out now.”

The House Intelligence Committee has scrapped all meetings this week amid growing partisan rancor now threatening to derail its investigation into Russia and the Trump campaign.
The full committee meetings were canceled amid an increasingly tense back-and-forth that intensified over Chairman Devin Nunes’ decision to cancel a public hearing set for Tuesday, two sources on the committee told CNN.

The controversy widened as Democrats called on Nunes to step aside because of his decision to brief President Donald Trump on intelligence information he received from a source on White House grounds. Democrats believe he is too close to the White House to lead a thorough investigation into Russia — including ties between the Trump camp and Russian officials — an assertion firmly rejected by the GOP.
