NOTE: Reports are changing by the minute…..important update below.
CNN reports:
A mass shooting at a cinema in Viernheim, Germany, has left at least 25 people injured, German public TV reported Thursday. Viernheim is in western Germany, near Frankfurt. The shooter entered the cinema, apparently heavily armed, around 3 p.m. local time, authorities said. “We don’t know who the shooter is or what kind of weapons he has, but the possibility this could be a terror attack is crossing the minds of people here in Germany,” CNN’s Atika Shubert reported from Berlin. It’s not clear how many of the injured were shot, and how many may have been hurt in other ways.

UPDATE from the Associated Press:
Police say a man has been shot dead after entering a movie theater in southwestern Germany, apparently with a weapon. They say they believe that no one else was injured in the incident. Police spokesman Bernd Hochstaedter said authorities were told early Thursday afternoon that an armed man had entered the Kinopolis movie theater in the town of Viernheim and that shots apparently had been fired. Hesse’s interior minister, Peter Beuth, said it wasn’t clear whether the weapon was real. Hochstaedter said that the police deployment lasted around three hours.
