Trump Delegate Charged With Producing Child Porn, Mailing Explosives, And Possessing Machine Gun

Mother Jones reports:

A Maryland delegate selected by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign for the Republican National Convention was indicted on Wednesday on federal weapons and child pornography charges.

The federal indictment alleges that Caleb Andrew Bailey, 30, of Waldorf, Maryland, illegally mailed a cache of ammunition and explosives through the US Postal Service and illegally possessed a machine gun and child pornography. The indictment also further alleges that Bailey “attempted to use and did use a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce child pornography.”

Joe Cluster, the executive director for the Maryland Republican Party, confirmed to Mother Jones that Bailey was approved by the Trump campaign as a delegate to the GOP convention from Maryland’s 5th Congressional District. Bailey could not immediately be reached for comment.

From Baltimore’s NBC affiliate:

According to the four-count indictment and court documents, postal police and inspectors recovered ammunition and explosives from a package that ruptured open on Feb. 18 at a postal facility in Capital Heights.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives evaluated the contents of the package and found 119 rounds of reloaded .50 caliber cartridges with M48A1 incendiary projectiles and 200 rounds of 14.5mm M183A1 spotting projectiles, which contain an explosive charge. The package was addressed to an individual in Wisconsin.

Court documents indicate Bailey called U.S. Postal Service customer service after the package was not delivered. Neither Bailey nor the individual to whom the package was addressed had a federal explosives license to transport the explosives contained in the package, federal prosecutors said.

Bailey faces up to 40 years in prison. His father is the former vice chair of the Maryland GOP.
