BROOKLYN: Director Spike Lee Produces Star-Studded Five-Minute “Wake Up” Ad For Bernie Sanders [VIDEO]

Last week director Spike Lee produced a 30-second television ad for Bernie Sanders. This weekend he issued a five-minute version which features Susan Sarandon, Alan Cumming, Cornel West, Shaun King, and Harry Belafonte. The Hill reports:

Sanders appears throughout the ad, speaking about racism at a series of rallies. “For hundreds of years African Americans and their allies stood up and fought back against racism, segregation and bigotry,” Sanders says at an appearance in the South Bronx.

Lee has been one of Sanders’s most prominent and active celebrity surrogates, appearing in and directing ads for the Democratic socialist.

Clinton and Sanders are both making a push to win over minority voters ahead of New York’s primary, where Clinton is leading in the polls. She has a nearly 14-point margin over the Vermont senator, 53 percent to 39 percent, according to a RealClearPolitics average.

In a Monmouth University poll released Monday, Clinton had a large lead over Sanders among black, Hispanic and other minority voters, at 62 to 22 percent.

The opening of the clip mimics Lawrence Fishburn’s scene in the opening of Lee’s 1988 film, School Daze.
