House Speaker Vote Slated For October 28th

The Hill reports:

House Republicans will hold elections to nominate a new Speaker on Oct. 28, two days before Speaker John Boehner is expected to resign from Congress, Boehner told GOP lawmakers in a closed-door meeting Wednesday. Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Tuesday night he’ll run for the top job if he can win support from three major GOP caucuses, the conservative House Freedom Caucus and the Republican Study Committee, as well as the centrist Tuesday Group. Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) is the only other declared candidate for Speaker. Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) dropped out of the race and endorsed Ryan after he announced his bid.

The full House will vote the following day.
