BRITAIN: Alleged Serial Killer Charged In Murders Of Four Young Gay Men He Met On Hook-Up Sites [VIDEO]

A British man was arraigned today on charges that he drugged and murdered four young men that he met on hook-up sites over a period of 15 months. The Guardian reports:

At a hearing before Barkingside magistrates court in east London, Stephen Port spoke only to confirm his name and address. He faces four counts of murder in relation to the deaths of the men between June last year and September this year. Port, 40, of Cooke Street, Barking, is also charged with four counts of administering a poison with intent to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm. At a hearing on Monday, he was told by the deputy district judge, Shlomo Kreiman, that his case would be referred to crown court. All four men died after taking large quantities of the party drug GHB, prosecutor Paul Nagle told the court.

The bodies of the four men, all in their 20s, were found in Barking, on the London-Essex border. Scotland Yard named the first as Anthony Patrick Walgate, 23, from Barnet, a fashion design student at the University of Middlesex who was found dead in Barking on 19 June 2014. On 28 August 2014, the body of Gabriel Kovari, 22, from Lewisham, was discovered close to the churchyard of St Margaret’s church, North Street, Barking. The body of Daniel Whitworth, 21, from Gravesend, Kent, was found close to the same churchyard, on 20 September. The fourth alleged victim was Jack Taylor, 25, a forklift operator from Dagenham whose body was found near the abbey ruins close to North Street on 14 September this year, 300 yards from St Margaret’s churchyard.

The roommate of victim Gabriel Kovari told investigators that Kovari had met his killer on Grindr. More about Port from the Daily Mail:

Port describes himself on Facebook as a special needs teacher at Westminster Kingsway College in King’s Cross. It says he attended the University of Oxford between 2000 and 2003. He is believed to have worked as a chef and may have helped disabled students learn to cook while one ex-boyfriend said he also worked in door-to-door sales. His likes include a number of gay websites and lesbian, gay, transsexual and bisexual support groups, and it has also emerged he may have been a rent boy in the past. Port’s parents Joan and Albert, who live just two and a half miles from their son’s Barking home, today protested his innocence and said he had been ‘led astray’. The couple said they only found out that he had been arrested for murder on the news this morning, adding that they had taken their son books by adventure and thriller novelist Clive Cussler when he rang them from custody after being arrested on Thursday.
