Obama To Expand Overtime Coverage

Via USA Today:

The Obama administration is unveiling long-awaited new rules that would allow more workers to claim overtime pay. Currently, certain workers who make more than $23,660 cannot claim overtime; the new proposal would raise that threshold to $50,440 per year. “Right now, too many Americans are working long days for less pay than they deserve,” President Obama writes in an op-ed for The Huffington Post. “That’s partly because we’ve failed to update overtime regulations for years.” The new Labor Department regulations would affect up to 5 million workers. Many workers who make more than $23,660 a year are exempted from overtime benefits because they are are designated as management or administrative personnel.

The National Retail Federation plans to fight the change.
