From the AFA’s OneNewsNow:
The founder of Liberty Counsel says it never was legal – and still isn’t – for the state of Alabama to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver tells OneNewsNow the latest order from the Alabama Supreme Court brings that to a halt. “This is a game-changer in Alabama – [and] this may be a game-changer throughout the United States,” the attorney states. “This is putting the state judiciary up against the federal judiciary or anyone else who wants to come up with some cockeyed view that somehow the Constitution now births some newfound notion of same-sex marriage.” As for the marriage licenses already issued to homosexual couples, Staver says they are null and void. “The fact is it wasn’t legal to issue the same-sex marriage licenses throughout the state of Alabama in the first place – and issuing them now is not legal,” he explains. “So these are void and have no legal effect in Alabama.”
SCOTUS will likely have a different opinion.
