TODAY: Indiana Senate To Vote On Constitutional Ban On Same-Sex Marriage

This afternoon the full Indiana Senate will hear the bill to place a ban on same-sex marriage into the state constitution. Earlier this week the Senate Rules Committee advanced the amended version of the bill which does not include a ban on civil unions and therefore does not match the version passed by the last legislature. If the amended version passes today, the earliest a ban could be placed on the public ballot will be 2016.  (As you can see, NOM is holding a hate rally at the statehouse prior to the vote.) Republicans outnumber Democrats by 37-13 in the Senate, so passage of the amended ban is probably the best outcome we can hope for. If that happens, the haters will be very, very unhappy. I’ll post a link to the live video stream shortly before proceedings commence.
