Charlie Crist Backs Marriage

“Some great news: On Tuesday, Delaware became the 11th state to allow marriage equality. And just a few days ago, Rhode Island adopted a similar measure, which followed victories last fall in Maine, Maryland and Washington. I most certainly support marriage equality in Florida and look forward to the day it happens here.” – Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, writing yesterday on his Facebook page.

During his 2006 gubernatorial campaign Crist signed the petition to place a ban on same-sex marriage in Florida’s constitution and touted his support for “traditional marriage” in his campaign materials. That year he also supported Florida’s ban on gay adoptions, a position he would later reverse.  Last December Crist joined the Democratic Party after losing his Senate primary bid against Marco Rubio as an independent.
