The Senate Judiciary Committee has narrowly voted 10-8 to move the Respect For Marriage Act, which would repeal DOMA, to the full chamber for consideration. Discussion during today’s debate revealed that the repeal’s sponsors will probably not submit the bill during this or next year as it has little chance of passage on the Senate floor. Aware of that decision, the GOP today declined to bother attempting to attach any amendments. For now, it appears that the campaign to repeal DOMA legislatively has come to a temporary end.
NOTE: We salute our bold Democratic allies in the U.S. Senate for today’s impassioned support for the welfare of the LGBT families of America.
UPDATE: Here’s the roll call.
