In a late night weekend session intended to draw lessened scrutiny from the press and public, the Minnesota House voted 70-62 to place a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage on the November 2012 ballot. The vote came after impassioned debate by legislators on both sides of the issue. The measure has already been approved by the state Senate and Minnesota’s governor has no veto power over proposed constitutional amendments.
