Broadway On Broadway 2009

Today’s free annual Broadway On Broadway concert in Times Square concluded with the usual snowstorm of confetti and streamers as the casts of every show lead the audience in New York, New York. Along the way we got performances from the casts of 21 musicals, including a few previews of shows yet to open such as Fela!, Memphis, and the revivals of Finian’s Rainbow (Cheyenne!), and Ragtime. The always-a-riot Seth Rudetsky conducted a Seasons Of Love sing-a-long (which went better than you’d think) and there were performances from my two favorite Broadway leading ladies: Beth Level and Sutton Foster. The show was emceed by Michael McKean, but sadly there were no Spinal Tap numbers. The greatest applause was reserved for the casts of Next To Normal and In The Heights, but it was the Rock Of Ages cast and Constantine Maroulis that really brought down the Square. Go figure. (Do I have to see that show now?) A great New York City day.
