Morning View – The Frying Pan

The rusty old Frying Pan is a former lightship that warned ships about the shoals off North Carolina’s Outer Banks from 1930-1965. After it was decommissioned, it sank at its berth in the Chesapeake Bay and remained underwater for three years. It was salvaged in 1989 and somehow made its way to the Chelsea Waterside Park where it was turned into a dockside party boat. For years, the Frying Pan hosted the Friday night kickoff party for the Saint-At-Large’s Black Party weekend, where several hundred men danced in its spooky hold, risking tetanus and a few other things. The sound system was great, as I recall. I don’t think they’ve done that party on the Frying Pan for the last couple of years.
