NEW YORK CITY: Southwest Jet Lands Without Nose Gear At LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia is shut down while emergency vehicles respond to a Southwest jet that landed without its nose gear.  Passengers on other planes say they saw flames during the skid, but there are no reported injuries so far. Passengers are exiting via emergency chutes at this writing.

Airlines Begin Frankenstorm Shutdown

The Wall Street Journal reports: U.S. airlines have canceled more than 4,700 flights due to depart Sunday and Monday, ahead of the expected landfall early Tuesday of Hurricane Sandy. Dr. Jeff sends us this photo of passengers forced out of LaGuardia’s main terminal this morning due to an “emotionally disturbed” man who brought in a fake bomb. The terminal was closed for 3 1/2 hours and the connections ripple effect could last all day around the country.
