VIRGINIA: Attorney General Ken “Sodomy” Cuccinelli Slips In Latest Poll

Virginia Attorney General Ken “Sodomy” Cuccinelli has slipped to five points behind Democrat Terry McAuliffe in that state’s gubernatorial race. The latest result is nearly a reversal of the positions the two candidates held at the launch of the campaign. Right wing sites are wailing that Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis may be Nader-ing the election. Sarvis is the wild card …

GERMANY: Angela Merkel Reelected

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been reelected to a third term. Her conservative bloc took about 41.5% of the vote – but her liberal partners failed to make it into parliament. It is thought she is likely to seek a grand coalition with the Social Democrats (SPD) who won 26%. The results showed that the liberal Free Democrats (FDP) won …

NYC Mayoral Recount Drags On
UPDATE: Thompson To Bow Out

UPDATE: My earlier post below may be moot, according to a tweet just published by the New York Times. It’s almost one week after New York City’s mayoral primary and we still don’t know if Bill De Blasio got the 40% needed to avoid a runoff with Bill Thompson. On Sunday, workers continued checking the vote tallies in the lever …

NYC Democratic Mayoral Race Too Close To Call Regarding Possible Runoff

Democratic mayoral leader Bill de Blasio appears to have very narrowly avoided a runoff, having eked out a scant 0.19% more votes than the 40% requirement at this writing. But with 97%  of the precincts having reported, the city’s Board Of Elections announced that it will now count absentee ballots and the paper ballots used yesterday for malfunctioning machines. A …

During his victory speech, former MTA head Joe Lhota crowed and crowed as if he didn’t just take only ten percent of the votes won by Bill De Blasio, who competed in a hotly contested ten-person field. During his speech Lhota reaffirmed his support for stop-and-frisk, declaring, “I won’t handcuff our police officers.” But he will handcuff thousands of innocent …

Today’s New York City Tabloids

The most contentious, wacky, and weird local election I’ve ever known comes to a partial resolution today. Whether or not De Blasio gets out of today without a runoff, at least we can all finally say goodbye, for now, to Anthony Weiner.

Bloomberg: De Blasio’s Campaign Is Racist

In an interview with New York Magazine, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg denounced the mayoral campaign of Bill de Blasio as “racist” because he uses his black wife and son in commercials. “He’s making an appeal using his family to gain support,” Bloomberg said. “I think it’s pretty obvious to anyone watching what he’s been doing.” De Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, …
