Britney Spears Sparks Criticism With Pride Tweet

The Huffington Post UK reports:

Britney Spears has raised eyebrows with her latest tweets, which has sparked accusations of “exploiting Pride” to sell her latest perfume. Over the weekend, Britney gave her first UK live performance in two years at Brighton Pride, where her show received huge praise from fans.

However, shortly after the event, a tweet was posted on Britney’s official Twitter account, advertising her latest perfume, ‘Prerogative’, her first gender-neutral scent, which received a much more mixed response.

A range of responses followed, including many criticising the ‘Baby One More Time’ singer for using Pride to promote her latest perfume, with no mention of how the product would benefit the community.

The Daily Mail reports:

According to fans enjoying her chart-topping hits, half way through her high-octane gig, Britney turned to one of her dancers and asked: “Where are we?” Taking it all in their stride, her backing dancers – also clad in glittering ensembles – then replied: “Brighton Pride.”  Not fazed by her gaffe, Britney quickly returned to the audience to shout “What’s up Brighton Pride!”

According to Pink News, “£1 of each £40 bottle” from sales of the special Pride edition of the perfume does go to GLAAD. Hit the first link above for a roundup of responses to her tweet.
